Markkinat Unikko Linen Blend Dress
The Markkinat dress is made of a cupro and linen blend and has a relaxed, straight fit. The dress features the Unikko pattern, with an O-neck, a button closure, and chest pockets. The dress has side seam pockets, loose, elbow-length sleeves, and a central back seam. It has a narrow, separate belt with belt loops at the sides.
Our dresses are sewn using the whole fabric width, so their appearance may vary. Each item is unique.
Unikko was created by Maija Isola in 1964 and has since become an international icon of print design. The founder of Marimekko, Armi Ratia, believed it was impossible to faithfully capture the true essence of real flowers in print, which is why floral prints were earlier excluded from Marimekko collections. So, Maija Isola designed Unikko to be an abstraction of a flower rather than a photorealistic rendition. Today, Unikko is a powerful emblem of joy and creativity, seamlessly integrated into Marimekko´s design identity.
