Toikka Long-Eared Owl

Birds by Toikka, Finnish design pioneer Oiva Toikka’s iconic collection of glass birds, took flight in 1972 at the Nuutajärvi glass factory. Created in close collaboration with the glassblowers, the collection combined Toikka’s passion for nature and blown glass art. In 2014 the production of the series was transferred to the Iittala Glass Factory, where Toikka continued his close partnership with the team. The collection embodies a rich fusion of glassmaking traditions. Each handcrafted and mouthblown glass bird is a one-of-a-kind art object. Birds by Toikka Long-Eared Owl showcases the artist’s playful whimsy and unlimited imagination. The owl’s dome shaped body is marked with iridescent speckles while his protruding ears and sharp eyes give him a look of perpetual curiosity.
